Putt Pub in San Marcos is a Hole-in-One!
Star Wars to Mini Golf
It was a busy, busy week, but thankfully one that included the discovery of what has to be the best date spot in San Marcos (click link for the review on Putt Pub San Marcos). Out of downright necessity, I haven’t written anything in 5 days (thank God for the backlogging of entries I already had written). Big plans and projects and toddler transitions (and Nova fevers) this week made writing virtually impossible, so I’ve been itching to get back to it.
Without going into every single detail, I’ll try to paint a basic, abbreviated picture of this last week’s schedule:
Thursday was my “toasting sugar” day (which we know how that day ended), Friday was a trip to see Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi at EVO in Kyle (the movie, of course, was amazing to see in theaters…the theater itself left a lot to be desired), Saturday was a San Antonio Zoo trip followed by Mellow Mushroom pizza, and Sunday was church and a playdate between the babies and their cousins. On Monday, the babies helped Mama make toasted sugar, brown-butter Scotch shortbread, and I made homemade key lime curd that evening.
Celebrations mean SUGAR
Tuesday (May 2nd) was Nathan’s birthday, so the babies and I made the homemade key lime pie ice cream using the shortbread and curd, I made pizza dough for dough-wrapped hotdogs (a birthday tradition), and ran some errands with Nova and Coen after picking him up from school.
I had to pick up some special-ordered, incredible cinnamon rolls from 2Tarts (HIGHLY recommend!) to surprise Nathan with (since you can’t stick a birthday candle in ice cream), and we ran by Spec’s to grab some Bundaberg ginger beer and Sexton single malt Irish Whiskey (Coen’s gift to his Papa).
Sinko More Bad Food in Mayo Mouth
Wednesday was grocery shopping. Thursday (May the 4th Be With You!), I made the executive decision to implement some Montessori-friendly changes around the house, including converting Orson’s crib into a toddler day bed (which the babies are absolutely obsessed with!), and that night, I baked a 4-layer churro cake (go big or go home, right?) for a neighborhood Cinco de Mayo fiesta we were going to the next day.
Friday (yesterday), I spent the morning assembling what turned out to be an absolute fugly monstrosity of a cake. Then, I spent some time in the early evening burning the crap out of my fingers trying to steam tamales for the first time ever, a mere 30 minutes before the party.
And this morning, we took the babies to Morningside Park. It’s a Saturday morning mainstay for us (when we don’t have any other special activities planned). So…we’re back to “praying for boredom”, as my MIL would say. And I’m so thankful to have some writing time today!
I will say that as busy and hectic as this week felt, it was also wonderful in many ways. It was productive, to say the least. I still got all 4 workouts in! I had a lot of fun with Orson and Nova. We even planted some flowers together after I bought them a Green Toys gardening set! Lots of wonderful memories were made.
The Best Date Spot in San Marcos
A Putt Pub Review
Nathan and I also discovered the BEST DATE SPOT in SAN MARCOS!
We decided to get a birthday date in Tuesday night. Nathan found this incredible place in San Marcos that he wanted us to try called Putt Pub. It’s kind of indescribable how great this place is, but I’ll do my best. Hopefully, the photos do it justice…
At first glance, driving up to this place, it doesn’t look like much. You’re not entirely sure what to expect when your husband describes it as a “mini-golf place with food trucks”. But walking up, the atmosphere, the whole aesthetic of the place, really impressed me pretty quickly.
The awesome Putt Pub logo; the cute, attention-to-detail decorations, like a “No Regerts” wall mural and a door frame whimsically adorned with colorful putt-putt golf balls; the punny cocktail and shot names (e.g. Deez Puttz, Putt Punch, and Puttery Nipples); and the comfortable variety of seating (hammocks, cafe tables, bench swings, etc).
A Clever Course
What most impressed us (besides the reasonably strong drinks and not-too-loud, ambient “classic rock” music of the 90s-00s) were the putt-putt courses themselves. Eighteen holes of creatively-engineered, adult-level, challenging and SUPER FUN courses that were a fantastic mix of traditional style greens and more modern games, like plinko, basketball, and skeeball.
The courses may not be the same level of vivid or elaborate as a more family-friendly mini-golf establishment would bring to mind. To us, they were WAY more enjoyable…and just the perfect level of frustrating.
This place is so charming that within the first half-hour we were there, we were already making plans for double dates with friends to introduce them to Putt Pub. Even talking about what an awesome 21st birthday spot it would be for Coen. Assuming we’re still in the area by then. We could tell by the number of people there on a Tuesday night that it’s a popular establishment to be. And for so many great reasons.
Mini Golf, Drinks, and Nachos = A Good Time
Even if putt-putt isn’t your thing, Putt Pub is the best date spot in San Marcos. Lots of comfortable seating; a fun, lively atmosphere; great drinks; and a lot of other conversation-friendly patio games, like Jumbo Jenga and Connect Four!
And is it just us, or do other people friggin’ haaate when the music is so unreasonably loud somewhere that you can’t hear a single word a person 2-feet away is screaming at you? Not an issue here. And although we didn’t try the food this go around, we can’t wait to enjoy it on our next visit!
I cannot recommend this place enough! Putt Pub in San Marcos also offers family-friendly hours if you do have kids and want to check it out. Monday through Thursday, they open at 3pm. Friday through Sunday, they open at 1pm, and they stay open until 2am every night of the week! From opening until 8pm, all ages are welcome, but after 8pm, it’s 21+ only.
The pricing isn’t bad for a fun date out either. It’s $12 per person for the 1st 18 holes, but if you want to play again, it’s half-price! I think for Nathan and I, for one round through and a drink per, it was close to $50.
Perfect for a date or for a party, and they can also host private events/tournaments.
